…def would love to hear the WOP review…way off topic curious to hear your favorite sci-fi and fantasy series (ideally ones that complete narratives in less than 6 books)…

In terms of sci-fi series (again, only series):

- Dune, because only books 1&2 count, after that he's just on drugs

- The Expanse might be slightly over 6 books? but it's excellent and much more modern (and the TV show is just as good)

- Children of Time, if you want freaky AI and intelligent spiders (but it drags around the middle of each book)

- Silo (AppleTV adapted it) is great, and it's short stories so really fast to read!

Bonus:

- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: again, too long for you, but it's like Discoworld - humor-based so it reads super fast, and the plot is loosely connected so it doesn't really matter if you remember any of it

- I wanted to add Ender's Game, but only the first book is amazing, and the author has some really questionable views that kinda show through a lot in the later ones

It was especially hard to come up with this list, sci-fi series tend to be a lot longer compared to fantasy and all my favorites are in the 8+ books range :/

oh my goodness, this is the worse question ever 😅 I'm so bad at favorites, AND i love really long series too...

For fantasy (series only, you can ask again for standalones if you want):

- LOTR (duh - although probably doesn't fit the 6 books if i'm honest, they each count as at least 2)

- The EarthSea cycle (Ursula LeGuin never disappoints)

- Discoworld (i'm cheating a bit, but they're all standalones, and it's humor so fast reads too)

- The Priory of the Orange Tree (duology, has lesbians AND dragons!)

- The Locked Tomb (book 1 is Gideon the Ninth -- lesbians AND necromancy!)

Bonus: the series i haven't read but really really want to get to is The Broken Earth! It sounds just amazing.

I also have some French favorites, but they're not translated so i won't bother you with things you can't get.

Thank you for the recs! I have done quite the opposite this year and read mostly non-fiction, so it's great to have a shortlist to check out. I have a copy of "Gardens of the Moon" from my brother, I just need to work up the courage to start it 😂

Gardens is a mood of its own. Kinda trippy in a way, the world is just so huge you truly have to trust the process. But I promise it works out (your bother probably said exactly the same 😂)

Such an interesting year! Also thank you for sharing so many interesting reads. Bookmarked some of them to read later!

As another sci-fi lover (and planning to outline one myself too), curious if you're also working on a sci-fi story yourself?

Thank you Kevin!

Good luck for your story! No I'm not writing anything myself. I'm a bit too critical and lacking in self-confidence to do something like that. But one day maybe, I've always wanted to be an author 🤞

You should totally do a full review! I laughed at "big mad"

Also, LOVE all the collages you made. I love looking at the various arts and crafts that writers make, yours is so stylish. Fits your overall green vibe with Technofable, if that makes sense.

Echoing Sandra, bookmarking this to reference!

Same as Cansafis! Would be great to hear about the WoP review! I live in France so it's always great to connect with french people/people living here! I've always loved Sci-Fi, but I recently made a commitment to read more of it.

Joyeuses fêtes!

Thank you Sandhya! If you ever come around Paris, i'd love to have a coffee :)

I'm so happy you're reading more scifi. If you find any good French picks, i'd love to hear them. I haven't been reading enough authors from here, i feel quite unpatriotic ahah

And i'll definitively find some time to write a review too! Thanks for showing interest :)

For what it is worth, I enjoy egocentrism 😅 (For example: this has inspired me to read The Ministry of Time, which sounds like my cup of tea, and finally join Essay Club, which I have been putting off for ages…)

I think you'll enjoy it a lot! It has a significant amount of dry British humor ahah

And welcome to Essay Club, I'm excited to see you there 😊
